Art exhibit a commentary on prisoners being watched

Their sculptures and installations are the children of Joseph Beuys, Arte Povera, and John Cage -- dream-like objects often created by juxtaposing found items, icons and historical references.

Some pieces are constructed purely through elements of chance -- a roll of the dice, the spin of a wheel, the random accretion of dust...

This show -- "an immersive sculptural environment that is a hybrid of fun house, diorama and menagerie" -- resonates with insight into the current clash of civilizations, faiths and ideologies.

It is as monumental as it is impressive intellectually and emotionally.

For the Vancouver Humane Society to suggest this show is about cruelty to animals is a misrepresentation of this cutting-edge artist and the 40 separate works on display.

Lighting repair left us in a hole

A GAPING 4ft deep trench in the pavement and a cracked wall were left after workmen fixed a street lamp outside a Coventry home.

Gurdip Singh, aged 63, a retired foundry worker, woke on Monday morning to find workmen had turned up unan

nounced in an unmarked van in The Chesils, at the side of his home in Knoll Drive, Styvechale, and started digging.

The work was to fix a street lamp which had stopped working.

But the next thing Mr Singh knew, cracks had appeared in the boundary wall and, he says, it was starting to subside.

Terry and Lamps on the Quadruple!

A lot of talk has taken place recently with regard to the possibility of winning an unprecedented quadruple of trophies. Indeed, the media seem undecided which deserves the more column inches, the possibility of us winning a quadruple or of United winning a second treble.

In all honesty I suppose the amount of bias heaped on each variation of what would be a magnificent achievement depends on whether you`re subjected to the northern or southern press.

However, the Chelsea players are in a buoyant mood when it comes to discussing the subject of a quadruple.

Indeed, Frank Lampard, ahead of our FA Cup clash with Blackburn, had this to say,

"It`s not about the history we`ve had - but the history we`re making."

"We have to keep believing we can win all four."

"We certainly believe in each other.
